❓ FAQ

Common questions

SpeedNova uses real HTTP byte streaming via Cloudflare's global network. We run multiple test rounds and use 90th-percentile averaging — accurate to within 2% of your true connection speed. Run the test on a wired ethernet connection for maximum accuracy.
For general browsing 25 Mbps is fine. For 4K streaming you need 25+ Mbps per stream. For competitive online gaming, ping under 20ms matters more than raw speed. For a busy work-from-home household with video calls and large file transfers, 100+ Mbps download and 20+ Mbps upload is ideal.
ISPs advertise maximum theoretical speeds. Real-world speed is reduced by: WiFi interference, network congestion during peak hours, your router's age and firmware, distance from the router, and the number of devices connected. Always test on a wired connection to see your true maximum speed.
Ping is round-trip time to a server in milliseconds — lower is better. Jitter is how much your ping varies — high jitter causes choppy video calls and gaming lag spikes. Packet loss is the percentage of data that never arrives — even 1% packet loss severely impacts real-time applications like gaming and video calls.
1) Restart your router. 2) Use a wired ethernet cable. 3) Place your router centrally away from walls. 4) Reduce connected devices. 5) Check for background downloads. 6) Update router firmware. 7) Upgrade your router if it's over 3 years old. 8) Contact your ISP if speeds are consistently below your subscribed plan.
25 Mbps download is considered good for a single user. 100 Mbps is great for a family. 500+ Mbps is excellent for households with simultaneous 4K streams, game downloads, and video calls. Fiber connections of 1 Gbps are becoming common in many cities and allow unlimited simultaneous use.
10 Mbps upload is good for most users. Video calls (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams) require at least 3 Mbps upload per call. Streaming live on YouTube or Twitch needs 10–20 Mbps. Regular cloud backups and large file uploads benefit from 20+ Mbps. Most ISP plans offer much lower upload than download speeds.
Run SpeedNova twice: once connected to WiFi, and once with an ethernet cable plugged directly into your router. WiFi speeds are typically 20–50% lower than wired due to interference, walls, and protocol overhead. The difference shows the quality of your WiFi setup — not your ISP's actual speed.
100 Mbps is more than enough for gaming. Games only use 3–6 Mbps while playing online. What matters most is ping (under 20ms) and jitter (under 5ms). A stable 10 Mbps connection with 10ms ping will provide a better gaming experience than an unstable 500 Mbps connection with 80ms ping and high jitter.
Test once a week at different times of day — during peak hours (7–10 PM) to see congestion, and during off-peak hours for your maximum speed. Keep records to spot patterns. If results are consistently below your ISP's advertised speed, share the results with their support team as evidence when requesting a fix.

What is an internet speed test?

An internet speed test measures the real-time performance of your broadband connection. SpeedNova downloads and uploads actual data to measure your true bandwidth — not estimates. Our test measures download speed, upload speed, ping latency, jitter and packet loss.

WiFi vs wired speed

WiFi speeds are typically 20–50% lower than wired connections due to signal interference, distance, and protocol overhead. For the most accurate speed test result, connect your device directly to the router with an ethernet cable.

Speed test for UAE & Dubai

SpeedNova automatically detects your ISP — Etisalat (e&), du, or Virgin Mobile — and selects the nearest test server in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Compare your speed against UAE averages and see how your ISP ranks nationally.
